STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a 2-5 year old child? Do you live in a low-income household? If so, you and your child may be able to participate in a research study to help find out if a community-based parenting program can improve eating habits for families with young children. Participants will have 6 weekly sessions and 4 assessment sessions in their home over a 6-month period. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE
Healthy eating is a challenge for many families, and can be particularly difficult for low-income families with children. Research has shown that poor nutrition during childhood can lead to many health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and sleep disorders. The purpose of this research study is to find out if a community-based parenting program can improve eating habits for families with young children. Researchers hope their findings will lead to better health for children and families in the future.

Eligible participants will be asked to schedule one 1-hour session per week for six weeks. Sessions can be scheduled in the participant’s home or at a community location. During the sessions, participants will meet with a therapist to learn about strategies to improve mealtime routines. Participants will also be asked to practice healthy eating skills during mealtimes and complete assessments.
