STUDY BASICS
Do you experience daily dizziness when you sit up or stand up? Are you 40-85 years of age? If so, you may be able to participate in a research study to help prevent falls caused by dizziness. Involves 1 visit lasting up to 2 hours that can take place at a study site in Oakland or North Huntingdon. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
When a person sits up or stands up, the body adjusts the way it pumps blood to maintain blood flow to the brain. If these changes occur too slowly, blood flow to the brain can be temporarily reduced, causing the person to feel dizzy or lightheaded. In some cases, people may even faint or fall. The purpose of this study is to help researchers develop a way to prevent dizziness and falls in older adults.COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Ages 40-85
- Experience daily dizziness when you sit up or stand up
- Able to independently go from laying-to-sitting or sitting-to-standing positions
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves an initial phone call to find out if you are eligible for the study and one in-person visit lasting up to 2 hours. The visit will take place at a study site in either Oakland or North Huntingdon. During the visit, participants will be asked to lay down and standup several times while wearing ECG and blood pressure monitors.IRB: PRO17060606A
