STUDY BASICS

Are you at least 28 weeks pregnant? Was your body mass index (BMI) at least 25 before becoming pregnant? You may be able to participate in a research study to help find out if an intervention called ClockWork can help women manage their weight and health behaviors after giving birth. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Women often have difficulty losing the weight gained during pregnancy, but available weight-loss interventions are not always effective. The purpose of this study is to find out if an intervention called ClockWork can help women manage their weight and health behaviors after they give birth. Researchers hope their findings may lead to better maternal health in the future.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Ages 18 and up
  • At least 28 weeks pregnant
  • Pregnant with only one baby
  • Body mass index (BMI) was at least 25 before pregnancy [BMI calculator]
  • English speaking

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participants in this study will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to either receive an intervention that focuses on maternal weight and health behaviors or to receive usual treatment during the first four months postpartum. Participants assigned to receive the treatment intervention will meet with study staff and communicate using a smartphone app between sessions, complete assessments, wear an activity monitor, and use the ClockWork app to monitor behaviors like eating, activity, and sleep. Participants assigned to receive usual treatment will continue to receive routine care provided by your doctor or clinic.
