LOGIC Study for Children with Cholestatic Liver Disease

STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a child with diagnosed or suspected cholestatic liver disease? Children between the ages of 0-17 may be able to participate in a research study to learn more about the causes and long-term effects of certain cholestatic liver diseases. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Cholestasis is a condition in which the flow of bile from the liver is slowed or blocked. Many different conditions and medications can lead to cholestasis and cholestatic liver disease. People with cholestatic liver disease can have symptoms that include digestive problems, itchy skin, and yellow skin or eyes. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the causes and long-term effects of the following cholestatic liver diseases: Alagille syndrome, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis, and bile acid synthesis defects.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?

• Ages 0-17
• Have (or suspected to have) any of the following cholestatic liver diseases: Alagille syndrome, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis or benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis, or bile acid synthesis defects

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Medical record information and blood and urine samples will be collected for each participant. Parents may also be asked to provide blood samples. The information and samples will be stored in a database and used by researchers to learn more about these diseases.
