STUDY BASICS
Do you identify as African American/Black and have you ever had a stroke? You may be able to participate in a research study to help better understand the perspectives and experiences of African American adults who have had a stroke. Participation involves completing one questionnaire and one 60-minute interview. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
People who are African American are more likely to have a stroke and more likely to experience severe disability following a stroke than other populations. The purpose of this study is to better understand the perspectives and experiences of African American adults who have had a stroke. Researchers hope their findings lead to better care for African American stroke survivors in the future.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Ages 18 and up
- Identify as African American/Black
- Had a stroke at least 3 months ago
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Eligible participants will complete one questionnaire, one 60-minute interview to discuss your experiences with health care before, during, and after your stroke, and one follow-up contact.

Jordann Antoan is an undergraduate student in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Antoan’s research is focused on reducing stroke-related disability and improving health outcomes in minority populations.
