STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a child ages 3-12 who has Down syndrome? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in a research study to help understand how children with Down syndrome learn new words. Compensation provided and parking/bus expenses paid.

STUDY PURPOSE
Children with Down syndrome typically have delayed speech and language development. Interventions may help to improve speech and language abilities, but standard tests are not always good at assessing progress in children with Down syndrome. The lack of accurate assessments can make it difficult to determine if an intervention is working. The purpose of this study is to test several word learning assessments to find out if they are appropriate for children with Down syndrome. Researchers hope their findings will lead to more research in this area and better treatments for children with Down syndrome in the future.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
  • Ages 3-12
  • Diagnosed with Down syndrome
  • Can speak or sign at least 10 words
  • English is first or main language

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves an initial phone call to find out if your child is eligible for the study. If eligible, your child will have two study visits that will include hearing and vision tests, and responding to questions in the form of puzzles and pointing tasks.
