STUDY BASICS
Are you currently attending an opioid treatment program? Have you used injection drugs within the last 6 months? You may be able to take part in a research study to help better understand patients’ perspectives on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. This study involves a one-hour long telephone interview. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is an HIV prevention method. The purpose of this study is to better understand perspectives about PrEP among people who are attending opioid treatment programs.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Ages 18 and up
- Currently attending an opioid treatment program in Pittsburgh, PA
- Have used injection drugs within the last 6 months
- Not diagnosed with HIV or AIDS
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves a telephone interview that will last about one hour. The interview will be audio-recorded. At the end of the interview you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire.

Amy Kennedy
Amy Kennedy, MD, is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine and a Clinician-Research Fellow of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine, Dr. Kennedy’s research interests include addressing access to healthcare as well as retention in care for persons living with HIV and co-occurring substance use disorder.
