Pitt+Me Financial Decision Making Among Older Adults


STUDY BASICS

Are you an African American man or woman aged 80 or older, or a Hispanic man or woman aged 60 or older? You may be eligible to participate in a research study to help learn more about financial decision-making among older adults. Participation requires a 2-3 hour in-person visit once a year for 3 years. Visits include an interview, answering questions, and computer tasks. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE
Older adults have many important decisions to make about their finances. The purpose of this study is to help researchers better understand about how health, background, and skills affect financial decision-making among older adults. Researchers hope their findings will lead to improved financial programs for older adults in the future.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • African American men and women ages 80 and up, or Hispanic men and women ages 60 and up
  • English-speaking
  • Live in a private residence (house, apartment, etc.), or a senior housing community (NOT a nursing home or other type of institutionalized setting)
  • Live within an hour driving distance from Oakland (zip code 15213)

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
This study involves one 2-3 hour visit per year for three years. During the visits, participants will be interviewed, answer questions, and do some computer tasks.

Scott Beach

Scott R. Beach, PhD, is the Interim Director of the University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) and Program Director of its Survey Research Program. Dr. Beach’s research interests include survey methodology, research design, statistics, aging and caregiver stress, elder abuse, technology for aging and disabled populations, and coping with victimization.
