STUDY BASICS

Do you have type 2 diabetes and consider yourself a good sleeper? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to help learn about the effect of diabetes self-management and glucose control in people with good sleep compared to people with insomnia. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Many people who have type 2 diabetes also have insomnia, a condition that involves trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. The purpose of this study is to help researchers learn about the effect of diabetes self-management and glucose control in people who are good sleepers compared to people who have insomnia. Researchers hope their findings will lead to better ways to help people with diabetes and insomnia in the future.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 18 and up
  • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • Have good sleep quality
  • Have never been diagnosed or treated for obstructive sleep apnea
  • Able to walk
  • Willing to allow your primary care provider (PCP) to be contacted, if needed, while in the study
  • Willing to have your PCP notified of results of the study

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Following a phone call to find out if you are able to participate in the study, eligible participants will have one in-person visit. During the visit, participants will complete questionnaires, have a blood draw, and have physical measurements taken. This assessment will take approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours. Participants will be sent home from the visit with a device to wear for one night that will evaluate you for sleep apnea, an armband activity monitor to wear for 7 days, a sleep monitor to wear on your wrist for 7 days, a sleep diary to keep for 7 days, and a questionnaire packet. Postage-paid envelopes to send the materials back to the study will be provided.
