STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a child who uses social media regularly? Are they between 14-17 years old? Your child may be eligible to participate in a research study to learn about how relationships are portrayed online and on social media. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to learn more about how dating and relationships are portrayed online, and how teens experience unhealthy relationships or relationship abuse over social media.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?

Eligible participants:

  • Are 14-17 years old
  • Use social media regularly (at least once per week)
  • Are currently dating or have dated before
  • Speak and understand English

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

For this study, we will invite your child to participate in a one-on-one interview that will be conducted virtually using Zoom. The interviews will take 45-60 minutes to complete and will focus on examples of relationships they have seen online, and how they may have seen or experienced unhealthy relationships and relationship abuse through social media.

Maya Ragavan

Maya Ragavan, MD, is a general pediatrician and researcher at the University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is interested in learning more about ways to improve well-child care for children and families. Her research also focuses on supporting families who have experienced stress or trauma.
