STUDY BASICS
Are you an 18-30 year old with a family history of major depressive disorder? You may be eligible for a research study to examine the structure and function of the brain in young people with and without family histories of mood disorders. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
This study will using a brain imaging technique called functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to examine the structure and function of the brain in young people with and without family histories of mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder and depression). These results may help lead to better diagnosis and treatment for bipolar disorder in the future.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eligible participants:
- Are 18-30 years old
- Have a family history of major depressive disorder
- Do not have a present/lifetime diagnosis of major depressive disorder, psychosis, or bipolar disorder
- Have not had a diagnosis of substance use disorder within the past 3 months
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
The study procedures include: answering questions about topics like your health history and feelings, taking pictures of your brain structure and function using FMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging), recording your brain activity using EEG (electroencephalogram), taking drug and pregnancy tests, and pushing buttons during computer tasks.
