STUDY BASICS

Are you a physically active individual between the ages of 18-40 and interested in military training programs? You may be eligible to participate in a research study to determine the bone density, structure and strength adaptations that result from various exercise programs. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The goal of this study is to determine how a hormonal intervention can change muscle, tendon, and bone function as well as physical and psychological performance in response to mental and physical stress. To do so, this study will examine sex hormone (testosterone, estrogen) levels, muscle, tendon, and bone images, blood samples, and physical and mental performance. This study will look at things like changes in hormone levels, chemicals released from active skeletal muscles, and body composition. The results from this study will be used to improve physical readiness training in the military with the goal of reducing injuries.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 18-40 years old
  • Physically active

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

If you decide to join this research study, it will take you about 9 weeks to complete the entire study. During this time, you will be asked to make several visits to the University of Pittsburgh Neuromuscular Research Laboratory/Warrior Human Performance Research Center (NMRL) for testing visits. You will also be asked to visit the lab 5 days a week for four weeks to take part in a training program.
