STUDY BASICS

Are you less than 26 weeks pregnant? Are you looking for ways to reduce or quit your tobacco and cannabis smoking? You may be eligible to participate in a paid research study that involves meeting with a coach during pregnancy and postpartum. The purpose of the PICTURe Study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a smoking cessation program for pregnant individuals.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of the PICTURe Study is to understand the efficacy of a smoking cessation program with pregnant mothers/birthing individuals who currently or previously smoked both tobacco and marijuana.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • 18 years of age or older
  • less than 26 weeks pregnant

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participants will complete four study visits at the following times:

  • one between 8-26 weeks of pregnancy
  • one between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy
  • one at 1 month post-delivery
  • one at 3 months post-delivery

Each study visit takes between 30 to 60 minutes and may involve:

  • Questionnaires and interviews about smoking behaviors, general health, stress, and mood
  • Providing a urine sample, which will be tested for recent exposure to nicotine and marijuana

You will also meet with a study coach up to 6 times throughout the course of your pregnancy. These meetings will last about 20-30 minutes and will take place remotely through HIPAA-compliant Zoom or by phone.
