STUDY BASICS

Are you woman of Black/African American ancestry? You may be eligible for a research study to better understand how women of Black/African ancestry make decisions about using chemical hair relaxers and other hair straightening products, and their knowledge of about cancer risks. Participation involves one focus group discussion lasting last about 60 to 75 minutes. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The goal of this study is to understand the knowledge and opinions that Black women have about chemical hair relaxants, their thought about cancer risk from exposure to these chemicals through personal use or while using it as part of their occupation, and possible alternatives to chemical hair relaxers.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Between 18 and 70 years of age
  • Be a woman of Black/African American ancestry
  • A woman who is either a hair stylist or who uses chemical hair products
  • Must live in Allegheny County

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

One focus group discussion to share thoughts and opinions about chemical hair relaxers.  The discussion will take about 60 to 75 minutes to complete.
