STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a child 8-12 years old that has lost a parent to suicide? Are you or your child experiencing intense and persistent grief? You may be eligible to participate in a research study to develop a treatment for prolonged grief for families affected by suicide. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to learn about your and your child’s experience in order to inform a treatment for prolonged grief for families affected by suicide.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • You have a child ages 8-12
  • Your child has lost a parent to suicide

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • Brief interview to confirm eligibility for focus groups.
  • 1-2 Focus groups with group facilitator and peers (1-2 hours each)
  • Self-report questionnaires

Nadine Melhem

Nadine M. Melhem, PhD, MPH, is associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Trained in psychiatric genetic epidemiology, Dr. Melhem has a long history of working in research and a special interest in studying the impacts of stress and trauma on children and families.
