Family Prolonged Grief Treatment (F-PGT) Research Study Parent/caregiver of a child 8-14
STUDY BASICS
Are you the parent or caregiver of a child 8-14 years old who lost a parent to suicide more than a year ago? Do you or your child feel stuck in their grief? You and your child may be eligible for a research study to develop a treatment for families where parents or children are struggling with grief. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this research study is to develop a treatment for families where parents or children are struggling with grief.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Families with children ages 8-14, who lost a parent to suicide more than a year ago.
- Child and/or adult feel stuck in their grief.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
- Complete initial interviews and questionnaires to decide if the study is a good fit for you and your child
- If eligible, participants will complete:
- questionnaires through a survey link
- weekly virtual interviews
- 16 sessions with a therapist
- observational tasks

Nadine Melhem
Nadine M. Melhem, PhD, MPH, is professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Trained in psychiatric genetic epidemiology, Dr. Melhem has a long history of working in research and a special interest in studying the impacts of stress, suicide, grief, and trauma on children and families.
