STUDY BASICS
Do you sometimes feel disconnected from your body? And have you experienced trauma? You may be able to participate in a study to help understand how interventions change brain activity associated with feeling disconnected. Participation involves interviews, pre/post MRI scans, intervention visits, and internet follow-up visits. Participants will be compensated.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to understand how different types of interventions may change patterns of brain activity in people who have experienced trauma. These interventions are designed to help you stay focused and feel more connected to your body. Feelings of body disconnection and problems focusing are common in people who have experienced trauma, including people who have developed posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because of trauma.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eligible participants:
- Are 18-65 years old
- Experience symptoms of body disconnection following trauma
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
If you are eligible and want to be a part of the study, you will participate for 2 months (13 visits) as well as a 3 month and a 6 month follow up appointment. The researchers will ask you to do the following: complete questionnaires and do tests on a computer, participate in short (20 minute) intervention sessions, and lie inside a brain scanner (magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI scanner) to take images of your brain while doing breathing and attention tests.
