STUDY BASICS
Are you a healthy adult 18 to 40 years old? You may be eligible for a research study is being conducted through the Hillman Cancer Center (HCC). Healthy volunteers are needed for collection of white blood cells (PBMCs) to aide in Adoptive Cell Therapy Research. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
This research study is being conducted through the Hillman Cancer Center (HCC). The Division of Surgical Oncology will be conducting clinical trials in which patients are administered autologous lymphocytes with anti-tumor activity generated from either peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) or tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL). Healthy donors are needed to collect PBMCs to enable these research studies. Please note that this aspect of the study is not to recruit cancer patients, but to aide in research developing novel cancer therapies.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Healthy men and women ages 18-40 years old. Women cannot be pregnant or have been pregnant in the last six weeks.
- Healthy donors will undergo laboratory blood testing and medical screening prior to enrollment and must be negative for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, West Nile Virus, Syphilis, T. Cruzi, and ZIKA. ▪
- Healthy donors need to meet strict behavioral and medical history requirements prior to collection. Examples of ineligible healthy donors include individuals with uncontrolled diabetes, poor blood clotting, body piercing or tattoos within 1 year in which sterile procedures were not used, liver disease, on steroid therapy, organ transplant within the past year or babesiosis.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
RESEARCH STUDY PROCEDURES:
- Healthy donors will be screened per FDA guidelines to include the above viral testing; as well as, a blood draw and behavioral/medical history review.
- Apheresis will be performed to collect PBMC from healthy donors. Apheresis is a process in which intravenous lines are placed to filter the blood through a machine to extract particular white blood cells while returning remaining blood cells to the patient.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical screening will take about 45 - 60 minutes.
- Time required for blood to be drawn will take about 30 minutes.
- Apheresis will take between 2 - 6 hours.
