Optical Brain Imaging - Healthy Volunteers
STUDY BASICS
Are you 18 to 65 years old? You may be eligible to be a healthy volunteer for a research study on brain responses using optical imaging technique. This study involves two visits for a total of approximately 1 hour for each visit. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
This research study is using a new technique called nearinfrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to measure changes in blood flow in the human brain, which occur during functional activity. NIRS uses low levels of two or more lights, that are visible and nearinfrared (invisible to the eye). Blood absorbs different colors of light if it has high levels of oxygen in it, for example, blood in the veins is a darker color. When you are performing a task, we can identify the areas of brain activity by measuring changes in the color of blood in the brain. The purpose of this study is to help researchers develop new analysis techniques for understanding this technique.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

- Have no neurological disorder
- Be able to read and speak English
