STUDY BASICS

Are you 21 years of age or older? Do you use online forums, such as social media, to help manage problems with alcohol use? You may be eligible for a research study to better understand how adults use online forums (such as social media) to get support for alcohol related problems. Participation involves a focus group lasting about 2 hours. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

A goal of this study is to better understand how adults use online forums (e.g., social media) to get support for alcohol related problems.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 21 or older
  • Able to speak, read, and type in English
  • In recovery or seeking recovery from alcohol-related problems
  • Over the past 3 months, actively participated (such as posting or responding) in one or more online forums to get support for alcohol-related problems

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

One focus group lasting about 2 hours.  This focus group will ask about your experiences using online forums, including different types of social support you might give in different situations. You will ask you to role-play related scenarios and provide feedback about types of social support that were provided. This information will help develop resources and assessments related to this type of online forum use.
