STUDY BASICS

Are you a parent of a teen coping with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)? Carnegie Mellon University is currently recruiting adolescents (ages 12-17) diagnosed with IBS for a study testing whether writing exercises can improve well-being and GI symptoms.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of the study is to assess whether a writing intervention decreases symptom severity and increases psychological well-being among adolescents (ages 12-17) who are diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
  • English-speaking
  • between the ages of 12 and 17
  • have a current diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • own a smartphone, email address, and access to a computer
  • be willing/available to be randomized and participate in all study activities

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

The remote study will consist of 3 remote assessments and the completion of short online writing exercises over the course of a month.
