STUDY BASICS

The Research Lab in the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems at the University of Pittsburgh is looking for participants for a research study to guide the interactive design of the human-robot interaction. Participants will guide the robot to complete a series of tasks in a simulated virtual reality home environment. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to understand how users naturally communicate with robots using modalities such as speech, gesture, and gaze during everyday tasks.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • 18 years or older­
  • A native/fluent English speaker­
  • Agree to video recording and audio recording­
  • Normal or corrected-to-normal vision, NOT be color blind
  • Be free from conditions associated with VR sickness.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

The experiment will take about 60 minutes to complete.  Participants will wear a Meta Quest Pro headset and interact with a virtual humanoid robot in a simulated household environment. Tasks will include common daily activities such as pick-and-place, pouring, and washing.
