STUDY BASICS
Have you been diagnosed with stage IV cancer? Are you receiving ongoing treatment at a UPMC Hillman Cancer Center? If yes, you may be eligible to participate is a research study on optimizing daily quality of life in patients with advanced cancer. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
To adapt and test an evidence-based psychological intervention, behavioral activation (BA), for technology supported delivery.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and receiving ongoing treatment at a UPMC Hillman Cancer Center
- Age 18 years or older
- Own a smartphone
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
- Answer questionnaires about quality of life and activities at baseline, midpoint, and end of study
- Complete nightly surveys for 8 weeks
- Wear a Fitbit activity tracker (which is yours to keep at the end of the study)
- Complete a session at midpoint with study team
- Incorporate personalized meaningful activities into daily life
- Participate in an interview at the end of the study

Carissa Low
Carissa Low, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Psychology, and Biomedical Informatics and Director of the Mobile Sensing + Health Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Low received her PhD in clinical and health psychology from UCLA and completed her clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh before joining the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine faculty in 2013.
Dr. Low's research focuses on the use of technology to monitor and manage chronic health conditions, with particular emphasis on remote patient monitoring and symptom management during and after cancer treatment.
