STUDY BASICS

Are you an autistic adult or an adult with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) such as Angelman, Down, Fragile X, Prader-Willi or Williams syndrome? You may be able to participate in a research study to help create a new survey tool to measure aspects of adult life in autistic adults and adults with other IDDs. Participants will complete online surveys. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

​The purpose of this research study is to develop a new survey tool, known as the Relationships Employment Autonomy and Life Satisfaction (REALS) scale. The REALS was designed to measure aspects of adult life in autistic adults and adults with other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The REALS was developed in partnership with autistic adults in an effort to better inform policies and programs that support these individuals. 

 

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or an intellectual or developmental disability such as Angelman, Down, Fragile X, Prader-Willi or Williams syndrome, 
  • Able to read English at a 5th grade level

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation will take place online. Participants will be asked to complete online surveys.

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Carla Mazefsky

Carla A. Mazefsky, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mazefsky is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her PhD in Clinical Psychology. She received her postdoctoral training at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics. Dr. Mazefsky’s research interests include emotion regulation as a critical mechanism in autism spectrum disorders.
