STUDY BASICS

Are you a survivors of childhood cancer? You may be eligible for a research study to get input from young adult survivors of childhood cancers (YACCS) and produce a new Memory and Attention Adaptation Training that is better suited to YACCS with cognitive problems. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Survivors of childhood cancer can experience problems with cognitive functioning (things like memory, attention, and multitasking) after completing treatment.  We have developed a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program that may help improve survivors’ ability to function in these areas.  We are modifying this program to best meet the needs of young adult survivors of childhood cancer, and are looking for volunteers to help us adapt and test the program.  Our team includes Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/Hillman Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Indiana University/Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • Different phases of this study involve different activities. You may only be asked to participate in some of these activities. All participation can be done from your home (remotely), you don’t need to travel!
  • Complete a survey asking about your preferences for therapy to help treat cognitive symptoms
  • Participate in a focus group to review treatment program materials and make suggestions for changes
  • Participate in a small trial of the new therapy with a licensed psychologist and complete cognitive tests and questionnaires before and after treatment
