Assessing Wheelchair Maneuvering
STUDY BASICS
Do you use a manual or powered wheelchair as your primary means of mobility? You may be eligible for a research study on measuring wheelchair movement in indoor spaces. This research will require one visit to the lab for a duration of between 2-3 hours. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to learn more about how people in wheelchairs move about in daily life. This includes moving in and out of cars/vans/busses, buildings, and moving about for everyday life events. This study wants to use what they learn to help improve vehicle accessibility for wheelchair users and to help people with all kinds of abilities to have an easier time using transportation.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- at least 18 years or older, and
- using a manual or powered wheelchair as your primary means of mobility, and
- able to independently use your wheelchair to go up/down an access ramp (like ramps on a transit bus) and navigate indoors in hallways.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
This research will require one visit to the lab for a duration of between 2-3 hours. During the testing session you will be asked to perform different maneuvering tasks.
