STUDY BASICS

Are you a physically active individual between the ages of 18-40 and interested in military training programs? You may be eligible to participate in a research study to determine the bone density, structure and strength adaptations that result from various exercise programs. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this study is to determine the bone density, structure and strength adaptations that result from various exercise programs. We will measure these bone adaptations with state-of-the-science imaging technology. We also want to find out other ways the human body changes in response to exercise. We will look at things like changes in hormone levels, body composition and physical performance.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 18-40 years old
  • Physically active

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

This study will occur over about 6 weeks. It will begin with a one-week monitoring period, followed by either a ~4-week monitoring period or a 4-week training period.

  • The 4-week monitoring period you will be asked to maintain your normal diet and physical activity.
  • The 4-week training period will consist of 4 weeks of supervised simulated military training in which your food and hydration will be provided. This supervised program will occur Monday-Friday with structured rest days on Saturday and Sundays. Training will last for the duration of four weeks with 2.5-3.5 hour morning and evening sessions on each weekday.
