STUDY BASICS

Are you currently pregnant or have given birth in the past two years? Do you have a cancer diagnosis? You may be able to participate in a research study exploring decision-making around infant feeding among pregnant and postpartum people with a cancer diagnosis and their healthcare providers. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study, Lactation and Infant Feeding with Cancer, is to learn about individuals' breastfeeding/infant feeding decisions and healthcare provider advice on breastfeeding in the context of a prior or current history of cancer. The study will involve up to 2 interviews with a member of the study staff about your experiences, thoughts, and decisions related to infant feeding. This interview will last approximately 30-45 minutes and be conducted at your convenience. 


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eligible participants:

  • Are English-speaking
  • Are currently pregnant OR have given birth within the past 2 years 
  • Have a perinatal cancer diagnosis (diagnosis directly preceding pregnancy, during pregnancy, or in the 12 months following pregnancy) OR any prior cancer diagnosis with potential to impact pregnancy/lactation

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation involves the completion of 1 online survey, and up to 2 remote audio interviews (via phone or Zoom) either before your baby is born, or after your baby's birth.

Jill Demirci

Jill Radtke Demirci, PhD, RN, IBCLC, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Demirci’s research interests include breastfeeding issues in premature and vulnerable populations as well as low breast milk supply management and diagnosis.
