STUDY BASICS

Have you been diagnosed with schizophrenia or a schizoaffective disorder? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study to help investigators evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an anti-inflammatory study drug to improve the symptoms of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Eligible participants are 18-65 years old. Participation will last 12 weeks. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy (effectiveness) of cromoglicate to improve the symptoms of individuals who have either schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. This research study will involve taking a medication called cromoglicate (NASALCROM) in the form of a nasal spray, or a placebo (saline) nasal spray in addition to your prescribed medications.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Ages 18-65 years old
  • Live in the Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania area

  • Have a diagnosis of Schizophrenia OR Schizoaffective Disorder


WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • 12-week study
  • Bi-weekly visits
  • In addition to prescribed medication, participants will use a harmless nasal spray called cromolyn and/or a placebo nasal spray 4 x per day
