STUDY BASICS

Do you have pain in both of your feet from nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)? You may be eligible for a research study to test whether a method to assess neuropathic pain characteristics can be used to classify patients into pain sub-groups and predict who will respond best to certain pain treatments that participants will take during this study.  Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

This research is studying:

  • Whether certain tests that assess your pain can help predict which medication will work best for each person.
  • How well two different medications work to reduce nerve pain in the feet.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • Must be between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Must have nerve pain in both of your feet due to peripheral neuropathy.
  • Examples include pain from diabetes, chemotherapy, or unknown causes.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

  • You will try two different drugs (at different times) that are commonly used by doctors to treat pain.
  • You will attend 5 study visits (1-2 hours) over 5 months.
  • You will respond to questionnaires about your pain.
  • You will undergo some tests that evaluate your pain
  • You will provide a blood sample (not required).
