STUDY BASICS

Do you smoke cigarettes? Are you 18-65 years old? If so, you may be able to participate in a research study to find out how smokers respond to cigarettes that are low in nicotine. Involves 7 in-person visits lasting about 2½ to 3 hours each over 2 weeks. Participants will be asked to stop smoking overnight (for at least 12 hours prior) before each visit. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE
Like all tobacco products, cigarettes contain nicotine. The purpose of this study is to help researchers find out how smokers respond to cigarettes that are low in nicotine. Researchers hope their findings will help to reduce the risk of nicotine addiction in the future.

  • Currently smoke cigarettes
  • Not interested in quitting smoking
  • Generally healthy (i.e., no chronic health problems)
  • Not pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant within the next 6 months

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves:
  • Completing 7 in-person visits over a 2-week period. Each visit will take about 2½ to 3 hours to complete.
