STUDY BASICS

Are you over 18? You may be able to participate in a research study to test and/or validate the MR imaging or spectroscopy sequences and their parameters on human subjects before they are formally applied to recruited subjects from other local, federal, state, or foundational funded studies.

STUDY PURPOSE

A sequence is a pattern of radio frequencies that creates different contrasts between tissues within the human body that then render an image. With studies involving magnetic resonance, including magnetic resonance imaging studies, researchers, who may be unfamiliar with the intricacies of sequence creation, must independently work with the MR staff. With this IRB, created by knowledgable neuroimaging scientists and engineers in tandem with the MR center, we hope to bridge any knowledge and understanding gaps by providing guidelines and/or examples to create efficient and effective sequences.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

A urine pregnancy test will be administered using a Urine hCG Strip. This will eliminate any chances that the MR scanner will disrupt any development during a known or unknown pregnancy.

MR data acquisition. All MR scans will be performed on a state-of-the-art human 7T MRI scanner at the Department of Bioengineering 7T Research Program in the basement of the Biomedical Science Tower 3 (BST3). The new 7T MRI machine planned for construction will not require different inclusionary or exclusionary criteria.

The MR scan will be one scan session (total 90 mins), with a 15 mins interval within the scan sessions for subjects’ stretch and rest if they need.

No ionizing radiation. contrast agent, dyes, or any other drugs/substances will be administered for the MRI.
