STUDY BASICS

Are you a healthy 18-65 year old? Are you HIV negative? You may be eligible for a research study for the prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

MK-8527 is an investigational drug being developed for the prevention of contracting Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This trial is testing MK-8527 in people who are at low risk for contracting HIV. The purpose of this trial is to test the safety of different doses of MK-8527 when given once each month, and to measure what happens as MK-8527 goes through the body.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eligible participants:

  • Are 18-65 years of age
  • Are in good health
  • Are HIV Negative and have a low risk of contracting HIV
  • Do not use or inject drugs that were not recommended or prescribed by a doctor
  • Do not have a history of drug or alcohol abuse or dependence

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

During each month of dosing, everyone will take 4 capsules. The drug you get will depend on which group you are placed in. If you take the placebo, the pill (or capsule, etc.) may look close to or exactly like the MK-8527 capsule, but it does not contain any active ingredients. You have a 1 in 7 chance of getting placebo and a 6 in 7 chance of being placed into one of the groups that get MK-8527. This trial has 4 groups:

  • Group 1 will get 1 capsule with MK-8527 and 3 with placebo.
  • Group 2 will get 2 capsules with MK-8527 and 2 with placebo.
  • Group 3 will get 4 capsules with MK-8527.
  • Group 4 will get 4 capsules with placebo.
