Epilepsy Imaging Study – Healthy Volunteers
We're sorry. This study is closed and no longer recruiting participants.
STUDY BASICS
Are you a relatively healthy non-smoking adult between 40-65 years old? If so, you may be able to participate in a research study that uses MRI scanning to measure the chemical composition of different brain regions. Up to 3 study visits are possible, with each visit lasting about 1.5 hours. At any given visit, up to two MRI scans may be performed. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is help researchers better understand epilepsy through advanced imaging methods that look at how different chemicals are distributed throughout the brain. Researchers will compare results from people with and without epilepsy.COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Age 40-65
- Relatively healthy
- Non-smoking
- Willing and able to have an MRI
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation in this study requires 1-3 study visits. Screening procedures include answering questions about your safety with MRI studies and will take less than 30 minutes to complete. At this same visit, you will undergo a magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) study. MRSI uses the same equipment as a conventional MRI. MRI is a painless procedure that does not use radiation, but uses radio waves, a large magnet, and a computer to create images. The MRSI exam will take about 70-90 minutes. At any one visit, you may participate in one or two MRSI exams. You may be asked if you can participate in several visits (up to a total of 3 separate visits).IRB: PRO13030356B
