Moody-Y Study: Emotional and Personality Development
STUDY BASICS
Does it often seem like your child is on an emotional rollercoaster? Is your child between the ages of 11-13 and currently receiving treatment for a mood disorder or behavior problem? If so, you and your child may be able to participate in a research study to learn more about how certain personality traits affect interpersonal relationships. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to help researchers learn more about differences in the way children experience emotions, and how this impacts the way they think, behave, and relate to others.COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
- Child aged 11-13
- Child currently (or was recently) receiving mental health treatment for a mood disorder or behavior problem
- Parent must also participate
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation consists of three visits, each lasting 4-5 hours. Parent and child will complete a series of interviews, questionnaires, and interactive tasks. Participants will return at 9 and 18 months to complete follow-up assessments. After the first two visits, parent and child will be provided with a mobile device to keep for four days. Using the mobile device, participants will be asked to respond to scheduled assessments regarding emotions, feelings, and activities.IRB: STUDY19060128A

Stephanie Stepp
Stephanie Stepp, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Stepp uses her research to examine the roles that emotion, mood, and personality play in teenagers and adolescents. Dr. Stepp uses the insights from this research to try and help teens at risk for personality or mood disorders.
MEET THE COORDINATOR

Betsy Butler
Betsy A. Butler, PhD, received her degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a research project clinician in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Butler has worked in research since 1991 and has been with UPMC since 2006. For the past 3 years, Dr. Butler has been working on personality studies however she has spent most of her career in behavioral medicine.
