Functional Imaging of Speech
This study is not currently recruiting. Please check back at a later time.
STUDY BASICS
Are you 18-49 years of age? Investigators at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking adult volunteers to participate in a multi-session brain imaging research study to understand how different parts of the brain function while we plan, produce, and hear speech. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to understand how the brain’s motor system interacts with its sensory system as we plan and produce speech. By measuring these brain systems at high resolution across multiple tasks, we will be able to determine how they function with unprecedented detail. This may ultimately lead to new insights about speech disorders.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
You may be eligible if you:
- Are between 18 and 49 years
- Are Right-handed
- Are a native English speaker
- Have typical, healthy voice, speech, and hearing
- Have no history of neurological disease, injury, or impairment
- Have no serious MRI risk factors (e.g., implanted electrical devices, certain metal objects or implants, etc.) and no history of severe claustrophobia.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves 6 sessions, each 2-3 hours, over approximately 12 months.
