STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a 10-13-year-old? Interested in research? The University of Pittsburgh is looking for teens between the ages of 10 and 13 to take part in a study looking at the effects of puberty on brain function and emotional health. Participation involves one visit to the University of Pittsburgh over 2 years. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of the study is to understand the effects of puberty and pubertal hormones on the brain in adolescents aged 10-13 years old varying in levels of anxiety symptoms and how these effects are associated with changes in anxiety in adolescents. 


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

To qualify, your child must:

  • Be female aged 10 - 12
  • Be male aged 11 - 13
  • Have no metal in their body (dental fillings are OK)

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

  • One visit to the University of Pittsburgh over 2 years
  • Interviews/questionnaires about mood and behaviors
  • MRI scan
  • Surveys on emotional health
  • Providing hair and saliva samples

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Cecile Ladouceur

Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Ladouceur is a clinical child psychologist with expertise in developmental affective neuroscience. Her research program seeks to understand how alterations in the development of brain circuitry supporting emotion and motivation contribute to risk for anxiety and depression during adolescence.
