STUDY BASICS

Do you often worry, ruminate, or feel increasingly stressed, anxious, or depressed? You may be eligible to participate in a research study looking at how people respond to a brain stimulation method called transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS. The study involves four visits. Each visit lasts 2-3 hours. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Researchers are interested in studying how people respond to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a noninvasive brain stimulation method that uses magnets to temporarily change brain activity in specific parts of the brain. In this study, researchers will measure your responses to TMS on 3 separate occasions. You will also complete computer tasks while researchers scan your brain using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The goal of this study is to see how TMS changes the way people process information physically and emotionally while completing certain tasks.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • You are between the ages of 30 and 50.
  •  You often worry, ruminate, or feel increasingly stressed, anxious, or depressed.
  • You do not use medications for high blood pressure, heart disease, or neurological conditions.
  • You can have an MRI (no metal in body, not pregnant).

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • The study involves 4 visits
  • Some visits involve TMS and an MRI scan.
