STUDY BASICS

This study is recruiting adult volunteers age 18 and older. This research study is evaluating whether a non-contact mmWave sensing system can measure swallowing activity from the neck area. Participation involves a single visit that will be about 1 hour to complete. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of a non-contact mmWave radar system for continuous monitoring of swallow activities. This is important because it could enable continuous monitoring of swallow disorder over time, in contrast to existing approaches that rely on wearable sensors that is uncomfortable to wear for a long time.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • are age 18 and older
  • willing to swallow food or liquid

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation involves a single visit that will be about 1 hour

  • Consent and brief eligibility/safety screening
  • Placement of non-invasive sensors near/on the neck area (mmWave + camera + wearable IMU)
  • Structured swallowing tasks using small, pre-defined safe liquid/food amounts and consistencies
  • Short rest breaks between trials
  • Sensor removal and brief wrap-up feedback
