STUDY BASICS
Are you the parent of a child that has been diagnosed with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) or Runner’s Knee? Your child may be eligible for a research study to look at the relationship between findings on an ultrasound examination with features of patellofemoral pain syndrome. Participation involves questionnaires, simple exercises to gauge symptoms, and an ultrasound of both knees.
STUDY PURPOSE
Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common cause of knee pain for many people. In some cases, the pain can last long periods of time. Physical therapy is the main treatment for patellofemoral pain syndrome. We would like to evaluate if there are specific parts of the knee that may be targeted with therapies to relieve the symptoms of the condition sooner.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
- Are age 16-17 years old
- Are having pain in the front part of their knee
- Have pain with stairs, squatting, running or jumping
- Have been diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS)
- Have NOT had an injection in the past 3 months
- Do NOT have other damage to their knee
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
A single visit and will take approximately 45 minutes:
- Your child will be asked to complete a questionnaire about their symptoms.
- Your child will be asked to complete a simple exercise to gauge the symptoms they are having with their knee pain.
- An ultrasound examination of both knees will then be performed.
