STUDY BASICS

Are you 65 or older and experiencing symptoms of depression? You may be able to participate in a research study to help understand how depression is related to cognitive impairment (changes in thinking and memory). Study involves answering questions about your health and mood, completing tests of memory and concentration, blood draws, and undergoing PET and MRI brain scans. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to help researchers learn how depression is related to cognitive impairment (changes in thinking and memory) in older adults. Researchers also want to find out if imaging the brain can provide information to help predict the onset of cognitive changes, and monitor changes that do occur.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • 65 years old and up
  • Currently experiencing depression symptoms (feelings of sadness, loss of interest, or frustration that interferes with everyday life)
  • Willing and able to undergo MRI scan, PET scan, and blood draw
  • Have a study partner (a friend or relative) who can accompany you to two study visits

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
This study involves a 30 minute phone screening interview, an in-person assessment visit, and another study visit to Montefiore Hospital to undergo the MRI, PET scan, and blood work. Both visits will be repeated 2.5 years later for a follow-up evaluation. Participants will be compensated $215.00 for completing all of the study visits and procedures.
