STUDY BASICS
Do you have a chronic wound (more than 4 weeks since onset)? You may be eligible for a research study to determine the genetic basis of chronic wounds, and whether there are identifiable differences from wounds that heal more quickly. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
This study is being done to determine whether wounds that will not heal (chronic wounds) have a specific genetic makeup. Many wounds that do not heal carry a specific genetic signature (or makeup) which may be similar or different from the whole body genetic makeup. There is a possible relationship between these signatures and how well a wound heals. If there is a relationship and the genetic risk factor is established, this information could help medical researchers design studies which can improve wound healing.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Age 18 years or older
- Chronic wound (more than four weeks since onset)
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
The study includes five visits: initial, 4 week, 8 week, and 16 weeks, and approximately 2 weeks later for healing confirmation. If your wound has not healed by the 16 week visit, we will continue to follow you out to 18 weeks (or approximately four months from your initial visit). We may also ask you to complete your final follow up by phone or in your home, if you are not able to come into the Wound Care Center
