Manufacturing of Whole Blood and Function
STUDY BASICS
Are you a healthy adult at least 18 years old? You may be eligible for a research study to to investigate how to best store and manufacture fresh whole blood. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Whole blood is an essential transfusion product for resuscitation of bleeding patients. The purpose of this new research study is to investigate how to best store and manufacture fresh whole blood by comparing and evaluating the current manufacturing methods of stored whole blood. These data may lead to discoveries and optimization of approaches that result in a more effective blood product that has improved availability.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eligible participants:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Generally healthy, non-smoking individuals
- Do not have a blood clotting disorder
- Are not currently taking any medications to affect coagulation
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
If you're confirmed to be eligible, whole blood unit donation up to 500 mL (approximately 2 cups) will be drawn directly from a vein using a needle. The donation visit can take up to 1.5 hours. In total, there will be at least 2 visits: 1 screening visit (prior to first donation visit) and 1 donation visit. You are free to donate multiple times, with at least 8 weeks in between each visit and not to exceed 6 donations in a year.
