STUDY BASICS

Are you 21-75 years old and living with type 2 diabetes? Do you take metformin, and are not currently taking insulin? If so, you may be able to participate in a research study to help find out if an investigational medicine can improve how your body uses sugar. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE
More than 26 million Americas have type 2 diabetes. While lifestyle changes and medications can help, many people struggle to control their type 2 diabetes. The purpose of this study is to help researchers find out if an investigational new medication can improve how the body uses sugar in people with type 2 diabetes.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Ages 21-75
  • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • Taking metformin (also called Glucophage)
  • Not currently taking insulin

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Study involves 11 visits and up to 12 phone calls spread over 15 months. Participants in this study will be randomly (like the flip of a coin) assigned to receive either the investigational medication or a placebo. The placebo looks and tastes just like the investigational drug but does not contain any active drug. Study participation also includes blood draws, a DEXA scan (similar to an x-ray), and a procedure called a euglycemic clamp that requires IV placement and measures how well your body uses sugar. Participants will also have other tests and assessments.
