Understanding Fitbit's uses to measure outdoor activities
STUDY BASICS
Are you 18 and older and exercise outdoors at least two times per week to maintain health with your Fitbit with GPS tracking? Are you interested in visualizing your Fitbit activity data? You may be able to participate in a research study developing an app for those who want to know more about their Fitbit activity data and try to improve the design of our prototype. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
This study is part of a research project that is trying to understand how missing activity data would affect the usage of smartwatches. Your input could help improve and design new methods that help people get their missing activity data back.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eligible participants:
- Are ages 18-56
- Own a Fitbit device with GPS tracking
- Have been using their Fitbit device for at least 3 months
- Run/walk/hike outdoors at least two times per week
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
There are a couple of location options for this study. Location A is a lab located at the University of Pittsburgh in Sennott Square. Location B is a public area, i.e., a coffee shop, near your community.
This study consists of four visits in total. The first visit can be via Zoom, location A, or location B. The second, third, and fourth visits are in-person meetings at location A or location B.
Visit 1 involves the completion of questionnaires and a general interview about your Fitbit usage. Visit 2 consists of speaking out loud what's on your mind while using our prototype system to explore your Fitbit activity, interviews about the prototype, and questionnaires to evaluate the prototype. Visits 3 and 4 are the same process as Visit 2, but there will be a one-week gap between said visits.
