STUDY BASICS

Are you a healthy adult and non-smoker? You may be eligible for a research study to evaluate the handling of blood products prior to patient transfusion. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the handling of blood products prior to patient transfusion. This study is collecting blood from healthy volunteers to mix with cryo products in the lab to compare different types of cryo. Cryo is a blood product containing the protein-rich part of plasma, the liquid part of your blood that aids in clotting abilities.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eligible participants:

  • Are a generally healthy individual and non-smoker
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Do not have a blood clotting disorder
  • Are not currently taking any medications to affect coagulation

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

If you agree to participate in the study, we first conduct screenings to confirm your eligibility. We will take your blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and ask you questions about medications you have recently taken. We will ask you questions about your age and past medical history. If you meet all screening criteria, we will determine your blood type, which requires a finger stick. If you have a donor card, you will not have to have your blood type determined.  At that time a study team member will take a single blood sample of ~ 60 mL directly from a vein in your arm.  The entire visit will last no longer than one hour.  You can donate multiple times if you want!
