STUDY BASICS

Are you age 60 or older and do you have difficulty completing or managing daily tasks? If so, you may be able to take part in a research study that is looking at ways to make everyday tasks easier to do. You may learn about skills that will help you solve everyday problems. Study visits can be completed in your home. Participants will be compensated.

STUDY PURPOSE
Some older adults start to notice mild memory changes that can make it difficult to perform daily tasks. The purpose of this research study is to find out if developing better habits and routines can help people manage their daily tasks. Researchers hope that supporting older adults will help them maintain independence in daily activities for as long as possible.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Ages 60 and up
  • Difficulty managing or completing daily tasks

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves multiple assessments over a 1 year period. Assessments occur immediately following the intervention, and at 3, 6, and 9 months post-intervention. Visits can be completed in the home. During the assessments, participants will complete tests of thinking and moving abilities and answer questions about mood, medications, medical history, demographics, well-being, and everyday activities. Researchers will also collect blood samples to examine markers that may be related to stress, mood, and aging. These tests will take approximately 3.5 hours and will take place in a location of the participant’s choosing. After the tests, participants will be randomly (like the flip of a coin) placed into one of two groups. Some people will take part in Strategy Training (ST), which includes meeting with a rehabilitation profession for up to 15 sessions over 6 weeks. The other group will take part in Enhanced Usual Care (EUC), in which the study team will document and monitor any treatments you may be receiving.
