STUDY BASICS

Are you 18 to 65 years old? Have you recently had thoughts of suicide? You may be eligible for a research study that aims to learn information that can be used to create treatments for autistic adults who live with thoughts of suicide. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The goal of the University of Pittsburgh Autism Center for Excellence is to support mental health and reduce suicide risk for autistic adults. The study hopes to identify emotion dysregulation in adults and create supports for adult mental health.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 18 to 65 years old
  • Are not autistic
  • Have thoughts of suicide
  • Able and willing to undergo fMRI scanning.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • In-person interviews and surveys 
  • Wearable sensors and phone surveys
  • Online surveys 
  • Brain scan 
  • Follow up online surveys and video interview at 6 and 12 months

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Carla Mazefsky

Carla A. Mazefsky, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mazefsky is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her PhD in Clinical Psychology. She received her postdoctoral training at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics. Dr. Mazefsky’s research interests include emotion regulation as a critical mechanism in autism spectrum disorders.
