STUDY BASICS

Are you the birth mother of a baby younger than 5 months? You and your baby may be eligible to participate in a research study with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on how postpartum mood may influence mother-baby play. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to learn about how mothers and infants enjoy one another and how that is related to how infants express and regulate their own emotions.

  • younger than 5 months

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation will involve 3 home visits over 6 months.  You and your baby will complete interactive tasks and play games together while each wearing a head cap that measures brain response. You will be asked to complete interviews and questionnaires.

Judith Morgan

Judith Morgan, PhD, is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Morgan specializes in child and adolescent psychology. Her particular specialty is understanding how emotional and social development in childhood can influence the risk for depression.





Alison Hipwell

Alison E. Hipwell, PhD, ClinPsyD, is Professor in Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hipwell is an expert in developmental science and observational methods for assessing early emotion regulation in at-risk and healthy infants.
