STUDY BASICS

Are you a black man 18-25 years old? Did you receive mental health services as a teen (ages: 13-17)? Do you currently use mental health services? You may be eligible for a research study about mental health care experiences. Compensation provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to understand how intersecting factors such as cultural attitudes, gender norms, and developmental stage (i.e., transition to adulthood) in addition to experiences of racism affect perception of need for and uptake of mental health services among young Black men. We hope to learn about how to improve resources and services for Black/African American men with mental health needs.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Between the ages of 18-25.
  • Self-identity as male.
  • Self-identify as Black/African American.
  • Received mental health services as a teen.
  • Have current mental health needs.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

You will be asked open-ended questions during the interview, which is expected to last for no more than 90 minutes (depending on how much you would like to say). During the interview, you will be asked to share your opinion about your mental health history and current mental health status. The interview will also include questions about facilitators and barriers you experience as you attempt to obtain mental health services.
